"Quote" of the Day
"That whole 'top/bottom' thing doesn't really do it for me since I can never take sex that seriously."

"Quote of the Day"
I do smell a rat when the person in charge of popular culture has yet to figure out that "golden nuggets", this century, refers almost exclusively to reconstituted chicken with a batter finish.

In my mailbox tonight...
The war takes its toll on sex workers' rights advocacy.
Paulo Longo of the NSWP (Network of Sex Work Projects) wrote to tell me about Dr. Sergio Vieira de Mello, High Comissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations, who died in the bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad: "As he was Brazilian, I had the opportunity to talk to him several times and he always expressed his total support to the sex workers' movement. Some of us had the opportunity to interact with Vieira de Mello in Vienna... Human Rights movement in general lost a great person."
The Guardian reports on Mello's death: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1022200,00.html
In the Guardian, a UN spokesman said that Mello "was really the man who could have helped bring about an end to the occupation." And Brazil last night declared three days of national mourning in honour of Mello.

People have been asking: "How can I order a signed copy of Diary if there are no autographed copies in my local bookstore?"
The solution: St. Marks Books will ship signed copies anywhere in the world. They take credit card payments, and they can take your order via email: stmarksbooks@mindspring.com
Or by phone: 001 (212) 260-7853 (until midnight Eastern USA Time 7 days a week)
You can only order a signed book by phone or email -- don't try to order it on the website itself... That will yield a book from the warehouse and all the signed copies are in the store.

Noted w/ Pleasure...
"Just as the greatest romantics are those who have no one to kiss, so the greatest travellers tend to spring from the most hideous, deformed regions of the earth."
Alain de Botton's essay in the Monday Guardian about "Brits abroad" touches on larger questions, not just the question of the travelling Brit. I have long believed that "vacations" per se are contrived, problematic nonsense. It's always nice to have one's belief confirmed by a wise and witty source.
