Canadian Readers: Butter Magazine

I enjoyed being interviewed for the fall issue of Butter -- you can find this (free!) quarterly in Vancouver, Seattle, Toronto and Montreal...

Michelle Rainer is the New York link to Butter and photo was taken by Matt Furman

A fabulous new magazine. If you sign up, you get invited to parties and stuff...

Quote "of the" Day

"We want to do an anthropological massage into the body of the ministry."

Gilberto Gil discussing his role as Culture Minister of Brazil. Inspiring stuff, this two-part profile perked me right up! Read it here:

The Miracle of Modern Medicine

http://www.newsday.com/news/columnists/ny-nyhen153495917oct15,0,5084253.column?coll=ny-news-columnists

Intriguing piece by Ellis Henican in Newsday about Mother Theresa versus medicine in modern India. I am glad doctors in the developing world are speaking up in the face of whacky Western superstition. India needs medical resources which are not always affordable or available. (Condoms, for example.) I think it's appalling for the Catholic Church to trivialize a developing country's medical needs by spreading foolish tales about miraculous medals. And what about the rumors I've heard -- that Mother Theresa opposed the distribution of condoms in India? Is this true?
